MJ Kamson-Kamara has earned his first call-up to the Sierra Leone national team following his full debut for Kilmarnock. The 20-year-old defender, on loan from Hearts, started at right-back in Killie's 1-0 victory at Hibernian's Easter Road last week.
Kilmarnock congratulated the player on social media. "Congratulations to MJ Kamson-Kamara, who has been selected to represent Sierra Leone," the club said.
The English-born player is part of a 25-man squad for Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea. His selection comes after a key step in his development at Rugby Park, where he was sent by Hearts manager Wouter Vrancken to gain first-team experience. Kamson-Kamara had joined Hearts after his contract at Lincoln City expired, having spent last season on loan at Glentoran.
His debut helped Kilmarnock secure a vital three points, moving them to 12th in the Premiership with four points from six matches. The win over Hibs, secured by George Stanger's 40th-minute goal, was their first in five league games, with recent form reading one win, two draws and two losses.
Kamson-Kamara will now join the Sierra Leone squad during the international break. He returns to a Kilmarnock side preparing for a home match against his parent club, Hearts, who sit third in the table. The match at Rugby Park is scheduled for this Saturday.
