The lifelong fan and winger said the penalty shootout defeat to a 10-man Aberdeen side was a crushing blow that must now fuel a league revival.

McKenzie is in his seventeenth season with his boyhood club, making the quarter-final loss at home particularly raw. Kilmarnock had reached the 2022 League Cup semi-final and he had hoped for another Hampden trip, but they failed to capitalise on a man advantage for over an hour after the match finished 1-1 in extra time. "I don't think it will get much tougher to be honest," McKenzie said.
